Gimme another chance, wanna grow up once again...
Its 12:45 AM. That's right, past midnight. Am tucked away in my bed and am just beginning to feel sleepy. Its pretty cold outside and Me can feel the warmth returning under the blanket around me.
And then there is this urge to write about this movie that Me returned from just a few minutes back. The feeling lingers over me like a nice hot coffee on a chill morning. Or like the way you feel when you get drenched by yourself in a downpour.
The movie that Me just watched is 3Idiots. If Me had to use one word to describe how Me felt, 'Fabulous' would be it. Hirani proves his mettle and Me thinks Me's turning to be his hard core fan.
When the movie was released, most of the initial reviews mentioned that it was based on Chetan Bhagat's 'Five point someone'. Hadn't quite liked that book or for that matter any of Chetan's books. And hence reluctance to watch a movie based on his book. Then a few friends from Hyderabad said the movie is wonderful. Now, these guys were movie buffs who would like any movie, so waited to hear from ppl. Quite a few blog posts showed up reviewing the movie to be among the best. There were a few that said that the movie was total crap, like this one. And there were a few interesting points of view too, like Kartik's. The reviews were one thing. But today, Me just felt like watching a movie. So called a couple of friends, bought tickets and headed to Forum Value mall.
Aamir was good. Kareena looked great, and Sharman and Maddy were at their best. Chatur suited the role very well. Music and songs are good. Gimme some sunshine is my fav. Helluva song that one is. Plot - a few aspects looked too far fetched - like the delivery on a TT table. Or for that matter Phansuk Wangdu's 400 patents. Me thinks a true passionate seeker of knowledge would never, never ever care about patents and stuff. Me believes that one of the first things a true seeker of knowledge learns is that Knowledge grows when its spread out. Not when its withheld or tied to materialistic stuff like finances.
The movie resonates quite a few of my opinions about our current education system and the rat race we tend to find ourselves in. Me thinks what our education system lacks are methodologies to help students discover themselves. Also what is missing, atleast in most of our curriculums is the focus on application of what is being taught/ learnt. The movie brings out these aspects in a subtle, but clear manner.
Can't help but remember what my dad had told me when Me was preparing for my engineering entrance - "...there are two ways to look at the examination - one - as if you are in a race with 2 lakh other candidates. Two - is as a challenge to answer 200 questions in 3 hours. When you focus on excelling at what you study, the first doesn't matter. And the second would turn out to be an activity thar reinforces your learning...". Somehow, that struck a chord with me.
All in all - one helluva movie. Loved it outright. If you ask me, go watch it. Its worth every penny you spend on it.
Me.
